Electrical Contractors looking for ElectriciansThere are contractors that are in need of
electricians.
Qualified, motivated, dependable and confident electricians. Right now the news paper want ads
are at a all time low.No news there. But there is hope. And you need to not only have hope;you need to show it
in the way you carry yourself! If you walk into a contractor's office with a look of despair and self defeat
it won't get you far. Walk in with confidence on your mind. Carry in with you the look of "I'm here and ready
to work". Calling and faxing resumes won't get you far in the beginning. You have to show yourself. Check out
this article I recently read. http://www.pearsonified.com/2006/05/the_only_thing_on_your_resume.php It is a couple of
years old but still holds true today. Credit goes to Chris Pearson of www.pearsonified.com
Most likely if you only send a resume via fax or mail it,it will end up looking like this photo stacked in a
corner somewhere.Get in the phone book, go online whatever you need to do to get you and your
resume out there.Remember,if it comes off the fax machine or received in the mail,it will get thrown in a
corner.Getting out there at least you have a chance of talking to a live person.Remember to get the persons name
you handed it to ( with a smile & hello). It will help when you do a follow up call.
Follow Up!
Phone calls after the initial "drop off " are ok.Mention the person that you gave the resume to.It shows you
have an intrest and pay attention.By mentioning the fact that you came in on Tuesday and left your resume with
Carol at the front desk will in fact show that you are making the first move and effort to getting
the job. My next post will be about presenting yourself and knowledge to the person doing interviews. Till
then, keep your heads up and above all-don't give up!
